Altitude and Weight Loss

Throughout Australia, obesity figures have almost doubled in the last 20 years, with over 63% of the Australian adult population now classified as overweight.  This has caused a rise in the number of health conscious Australians seeking out weight loss programs, to help improve their overall health and fitness, as well as, reach their weight loss goals.

Exercise is a key part of any weight-loss program. It burns calories whilst being performed, but it also causes calories to be burned in the hours following the exercise session, and this is where Altitude Training can take your fitness program to new heights.

Altitude exposes the body to reduced oxygen levels enabling the body to receive the benefits of vigorous exercise at comfortable, moderate exercise intensity, while reducing the stress on muscles and joints. As there is less oxygen available in the air you are breathing, less oxygen is therefore circulating in your blood. It is in response to this that the body makes many adaptive changes as to how it uses oxygen, as well as, its available energy stores.

After the end of Altitude exercise, metabolic rates are increased and calorie burn continues for a period of 12-15 hours. Therefore, you will still be burning fat when you are sitting in front of the TV.

The equivalent gains of exercising hard for 1 hour at sea level can be achieved in 20-30mins of moderate exercise at Altitude.

 

Increased efficiency of fat stores

The overweight person has very poor carbohydrate and fat metabolism (stored rather than used) and therefore has a lower exercise capacity overall.  The body utilizes fat stores differently at Altitude and activates the burning fat stores immediately, thus having a greater overall weight loss effect.
